Close up. Note that in these pictures I didn't have the battery in, for reasons unknown to even myself.
Videoskyping with mr tombert in person, and the battery in:

The space bar drama. On most models, the space bar is a little bit higher on the left side. Biggest concern in the EEE community is if it will hit the screen when closed, which has been both proven and disproven in several physicochemical experiments. Based on experience with similar actions in the past, I can advise against the fix based on heating the spacebar in water and bending with a fork.

Thank you Pimbert for acknowledging my help in placing the battery back in your eee, even from afar. Also, i'm more than proud that there is now solid evidence that skype with video support once worked on my side. That's close to priceless.
And last but not least, i'm very glad with this space bar issue to learn that eee owners are mostly the overly picky type. So that i won't have to feel out of place when i get myself one.
Oh yes, you as experienced apple user will be able to fit into the eee community without troubles. Since you probably also have the urge to modificate the eee hardware using a deconstructed usb-based gadget, a screwdriver, and electronic tape, no one will notice that you are actually a mac user.
